Dear Folks,

Today is Wednesday and classes have been passing for three days now in math and drawing. So far everything is fine. I just have to get warmed up again as I am pretty “rusty” from not studying all summer.

The reason I am writing is to ask for some money out of my account. The strings in my tennis racquet have broken and there is no playing until they are fixed. Please send me a five dollar bill. I would get it done on my account here except that my glasses have taken my credit. It takes twelve days to have the store do it while the does it in one.

This afternoon I went out in town and got fitted to glasses. They are not much to look at and are only for studying and for shows anyhow. They are silver frame with peculiar shaped lenses. The price is $12.00, approximately. The doctor in the academy fitted me to the propes lens while the establishment in town just filled his prescription. I will get them in about a week.

Also, will you please send me three of those butte-ware cups of which you have so great a supply. Along with them send one of those Montgomery-Ward packages of gauze bandage (if there is not any get me a package at the drugstore). Also send my Trigonometry and Solid Geometry books.

It took me about 1/2 hour this aft together my glasses. Then I had liberty in town and could have stayed out and done something but I’ll be darned if I didn’t feel lost. I actually didn’t know what to do with myself. The town is dead, midshipmen are not allowed in any places that are unbecoming, I couldn’t hold but just so many sodas and I had to watch out that I didn’t meet an officer to whom I would have to explain my presence in any but the optical store. So, you see, I went back in. (I didn’t even dare flirt for fear it would be some officer’s daughter that would lead to difficulty.).

Right now I must be going to dinner, so I will close untill the grand and glorious weekend that we all are looking forward to.
