Sunday P.M.
Dear Folks,
Here it is Sunday again and somewhere behind me another week. On the bulletin board in every hall, on every deck, it reads: “102 days till Holiday Leave and 78 days till Army-Navy game”. The time does fly.
Yesterday morning John’s father arrived and since that “Little Boy John” has been very busy and in great need of assistance in dressing, undressing, getting to formations and doing daily chores. H comes in the room, turns around twice and is gone again. The worst part of it was that he was on watch today. So consequently, Mid’n Proseus is standing the duty for I’m, getting up at 6:30, staying inside all day and again experiencing the hurly-burly of the 4th Battalion Office. Twice in one week, two days of rest and peace gone up the flue and two weekends broken up. Well, I don’t mind doing it for a pal and now I need never fear missing a day with my visitors because of watch. I shall be no more bashful than John in asking my roommate to take a watch for me, even if he did stand a very mean one a few days before.
I met his father very briefly after dinner yesterday. He is a fairly young man, very talkative and has that forbearing way that is common among Americans of a direct foreign descent. He is very nice alright, but not the type of people I am used to.
John had his father eat at the table with us. If Dad ever comes down and wishes to do that, it shall be arranged. However, if you are here for one dinner only, I would much prefer to dine out with Dad than have him dine with me. If he can arrange to be here overnight, then we can split, one dinner in the mess hall and the other out.
Yesterday afternoon plebe liberty in town began. From now on we get every Sat. afternoon except when there is an athletic event. I was all alone, so I went to a show and enjoyed every bit of it. It’s a dead town to do anything in, so when you have seen the shows and had your fill of ice cream there is nothing more to do. One is lucky to have a home to visit in town.
Soon I will have to report on watch again and as there is nothing of interest to tell. you I will close.
Love,
Reg.
